Flashback Friday: GW-300-1 - The First Solar Powered Atomic G-Shock

Launched in 2002, the GW-300-1 was the first G-Shock to have both Waveceptor and Tough Solar, technologies introduced 2000 and 1998 respectively.

About Watch Water Resistance Ratings

Here's a look at some water resistance marks on some of my watches.
According to Wikipedia, Water Resistant is a common mark stamped on the back of wrist watches to indicate how well a watch is sealed against the ingress of water.
Any water resistance mark is better than none. One assumes that, if there is no such mark, the watch is not "sealed against the ingress of water", with most watches being in this category even now which is especially true for so called "smart watches".

It has to be said though that the whole water resistance mark thing in watches had resisted standardization for a long time until some recent past, and some claims of water resistance had to be taken with skepticism but now there are at least two ISO standards dealing with the matter, though they are not universally applied, even in this day and age.
Watches from the Soviet and now Russian periods may continue to use non-standard water resistance marks. Here is a look at such marks and what they mean on the example of some of my own watches.



This Slava 3050 says Водонепроницаемые on the back which literally means "water-proof" as in "impermeable to water". But in reality it at best corresponds to the current standard of Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30m, that is, splash/rain resistant only and NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, water related work and fishing, and most certainly not suitable for diving.







Two Zaria 3105.01 moon phase watches. The water resistance mark here says Водозащищенные which literally means "water protected" and in actual fact probably means same as above - Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30m, that is, splash/rain resistant only. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, water related work and fishing, and most certainly not suitable for diving.
However, I should note that the back on those Zarias is very tight requiring a watchmaker's press to snap it back after you open it and there is also a rubber seal and some water repellent lubricant in the crown stem assembly. You could probably take a shower wearing it with no consequences.



Komandirskie 2416b above. Says Водонепроницаемые as in Slava 3050 above. But in this case I am willing to bet it corresponds to at least Water Resistant 5 ATM or 50 m, that is, suitable for swimming, white water rafting, non-snorkeling water related work, and fishing but NOT suitable for diving.
I showered with it on once myself no problem, except it's not good for the pressed leather strap, even though it is supposed to be water repellent treated.



Slava 2416 Flotskie, above. Marine-themed, as Flotskie means of, or pertaining to, Fleet or Navy. The water resistant mark here says Повышенная водозащита which means "increased water protection" and there's a picture of a cute little dolphin for good measure on the back. Water born- and sea-dwelling creatures are often used to indicate water protection and not only in Russian watches.

In this case we have also only basic water resistance as in Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30m, that is, splash/rain resistant only.


My Sturmanskie Strela 3133 Volmax mech chrono. Says Водонепроницаемые 30м, that is, exactly this: Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30m, meaning splash/rain resistant only, and NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing, and most certainly NOT suitable for diving.
Also it is a mechanical pusher-operated chronograph and mechanical chronographs and water typically don't mix in any combination with few exceptions.





A whole bunch of three Vostok Amphibias. These are the most water resistant Russian watches (second only to military spec Zlatoust divers). The back says Водонепроницаемые 200 м, i.e. Water Resistant 20 ATM or 200 m, meaning suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving and suitable for skin diving. Some even claim that they are more than that and can be used as professional divers but I have my doubts.


My experience, however, suggests these watches are good for a hot tub, sauna, steam bath, swimming pool -- used them in all of those places with no ill effect at least in the immediate aftermath. Though I replace them after about 3-4 years of use but never service.



And here's a bonus - my Seiko 5 cal. 7s26 of 2001 vintage below. The water mark here is again the non-standard WP probably meaning "water protected" - the most basic water protection offered by Seiko probably again corresponding to the current standard of Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30m, that is, splash/rain resistant only. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing, and most certainly not suitable for diving.

Orient Bambino Version 4 Blue Dial Reference FAC08004D0 (Options: FAC08002F0 & FAC08003A0), A Must Have For Watch Lovers – A Review (plus Video)

I have been fascinated with the Orient Bambino for some time. It was just the last year that the interest started to bloom more vigorously. The launch of version 4 of the Bambino series was the trigger that made me decide to get one.

Orient launched the version 4 in the first half of 2016 herald the fourth iteration of the classic Bambino collection by Orient. It is the first Bambino model to use the new automatic in-house Orient Caliber F67 type movement. It also has a number of changes from previous models.

The signature domed crystal is still there. However, unlike the previous models, the hour markers are rounded and diamond shaped. The hands are a lot thinner and the seconds hand has its tip painted red. It is also slightly larger, from the previous standard of 40.5 mm width on earlier versions to becoming 41.5 mm wide in this latest iteration. Concurrently, the lugs have also shifted wider to a more generic 22 mm from the previous 21 mm. Meanwhile, thickness is at 11.8 mm.

The version 4 is also the first Bambino to use the new automatic in-house Orient Caliber F67 movement. This is a new movement that has upgraded features, such as hacking and hand-winding. More about this later in the review.

Ich hoffe dir geht es allen gut! Es ist schon eine Weile her ... Es tut mir so leid für die komplette Abwesenheit! Ich habe gerade einen neuen Job gefunden, aber die Daumen drücken, ich werde wieder in der Blog-Szene sein! Frohes neues Jahr an alle meine lieben Leser!


Als ich mich langsam wieder mit dem Bloggen beschäftige, dachte ich, ich würde mein Lieblingsrestaurant, Texture , teilen und pünktlich zum Valentinstag!


Wenn Sie irgendwelche meiner früheren Beiträge gelesen haben, können Sie dieses Restaurant tatsächlich erkennen, wie ich vor einigen Jahren darüber bloggte. Als ich das erste Mal so gerne in dieses Restaurant ging, war das zweite Mal echt furchterregend. Furchtsam in dem Sinne, dass es nicht den hohen Erwartungen entsprechen würde, die es beim ersten Mal hatte. Meine Güte aber, wie meine Erwartungen vollständig erfüllt und in vielerlei Hinsicht übertroffen wurden!


Neben dem, was Sie von der Speisekarte bestellt haben, wurden noch kleine Extras hineingeworfen. Die Aromen waren genau richtig und eine Explosion von neuen Geschmackserlebnissen! Aber die Angestellten waren sehr aufmerksam und kompetent. Ich hatte das Glück, ein paar Michillin-Sterne-Restaurants zu probieren (alle dank der Angebote, die diese Restaurants machen), aber das ist wirklich die, in der ich fühle, dass sie mehr Sterne verdienen!


Obwohl dieser Ort unglaublich wäre, um jemanden zum Valentinstag zu bringen, denke ich, dass es für ein anderes Mal besser wäre, besonders beim Mittagessen. Ich weiß, ich habe nur ihre Mittagskarte / Ambiente erlebt, aber ich kann mir wirklich nichts besseres und angenehmer vorstellen. Für beide Male ging ich um 12-12.30 Uhr herum, wenn es nicht wirklich so voll war, und es war wirklich schön, weil man einen fantastischen Service bekam und sich fühlte, als ob man in seiner eigenen kleinen Blase wäre. Normalerweise wird es später nachmittags immer belebter, und (wann immer ich vorbeigehe), ist es abends sehr voll.


Ich kann dieses Restaurant nicht genug loben und würde es sehr empfehlen. Wir gehen normalerweise für das Menü, da es so ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist. Ich meine £ 27,90 (£ 32,90) (das ist seit der Zeit, als ich die Bilder unten gepostet habe, leicht gestiegen) ist eine Menge Geld, aber die Erfahrung, die man bekommt, zusätzliche Extras und leckeres Essen macht es einfach so besonders. Wenn Sie an einen besonderen Ort denken, um jemanden zu nehmen und Aromen schmecken möchten, würde ich das auf keinen Fall erwarten.

It was a custom design for Henry Graves Junior, commissioned as part of a friendly game of oneupmanship between Graves and a rival James Ward Packard. In 1927 Packard bought a watch which was at the time the most complicated ever built. 6 years later Graves had the “Supercomplication” designed and built by Patek Philippe to outdo his rival. This model was the only one built so when it went to auction in 1999 it was no surprise to many that it sold for more than eleven million dollars.

Patel Philippe watches have been enjoyed by elite members of society such as Queen Victoria herself, other monarchs, popes and political leaders. They are seen as highly desirable and have been presented as gifts to reward acts of bravery or loyalty. Having said that, Patek Philippe are a brand of exclusivity and this is emphasised when considering that in the entire 150 year history there have only been 600,000 watches produced, which is less than the number produced by Rolex in one year!
