In 1987, exactly 30 years ago, the company POINTtec electronic was founded by Mr. Willi Birk as a single company. The graduate business owner and entrepreneur took the step forward and began to build and build watches at a time when the shock of the quartz crisis was still to be felt.
But exactly this strategy, to offer the customer the exceptional in high quality, at affordable prices, should be the beginning of a success story. Back in 1996, POINTtec began to build the watches for the JUNKERS brand and a little later ZEPPELIN. Both names are closely linked to aviation and the aviation industry with its many stories should accompany Willi Birk at every step.
One of these fascinating stories is the famous JU52 by JUNKERS. An airplane developed by the genius designer Hugo Junkers, who was far ahead of his time. The Junkers JU52 was originally a single-engine transport aircraft that should transport as much freight as possible in areas with poor infrastructure. Already in the planning, the genius designer Hugo Junkers had also considered a three-engine version as a commercial aircraft.
Under the pressure of Deutsche Lufthansa, the decision to implement this three-engine commercial aircraft was taken in 1931. The machine was popular with passengers because it offered high comfort and was characterized by a safe and punctual operation, the cabin was even equipped with a heater.
On April 10, 1936, a JU52 with the label D-AQUI was put into service by Lufthansa. The machine, which was named "Franz Simon", experienced a changing history and changed the owner several times during the course of their employment.
In 1957, she finally came to Ecuador, where she flew oil drillcamps in the Amazon and supplied them with material. In 1962, the JU52 was parked on the edge of the airport of the capital, Quito, and fell into oblivion.
In 1970, an American aircraft fan discovered the machine in a desolate state and took it to the United States for several months. There, the aircraft was used for several years under the new name "IRON ANNIE" at Flugshows until the aircraft was finally screened.

On an airplane cemetery in 1984, two Lufthansa pilots accidentally discovered the discarded aircraft during the landing in the USA. They convinced Lufthansa's then Executive Board to acquire the machine and bring it back to Germany in order to present it to the airline's 60th anniversary later that year.
Thus the JU52, D-AQUI, with the loving nicknames "IRON ANNIE" given to them by the Americans, returned to their original home. Since 1986 it has been used by the Lufthansa every year to roundtrips at various locations in Germany.
In tribute to this indestructible aircraft, which is still fully airborne and used again in its home country, POINTtec has designed a watch for its 30-year company anniversary, which proudly bears the name "IRON ANNIE" as a strictly limited special model.
Classical technology and reliability in perfection
In the new "IRON ANNIE" of POINTtec, as a modern classic, a mechanical movement, but not just a clockwork, is a very special one. Just as the JU52 is still one of the most reliable and long-lasting aircraft ever built, this is equally true of the new model "IRON ANNIE".
The FW 98 RM handrail is based on the rugged and extremely durable Unitas 6498 caliber and has been equipped with a gear reserve indicator. This is a useful complication, which always provides information on when the elevator spring should be re-tensioned.
The gear reserve indicator is exposed at 11 o'clock position and not only adds a high functional add-on, but also increases the tension on the dial with its extraordinary graphics.
The caliber FW 98 RM is therefore not only functional, but also optically a treat. In addition to the finishing of all visible parts with Côtes de Genève, the thermally blown screws form an additional optical view.
The "IRON ANNIE" ticks at a frequency of 3Hz, corresponding to 21,600 half-oscillations / hour, and helps us to forget our hectic time.
Highest quality in design and execution
But the anniversary model "IRON ANNIE" also embodies the extraordinary in the design and execution of the dial.
The three dial versions (beige, anthracite and silver) underline the extravagant character of the anniversary model "IRON ANNIE". Depending on the design, the dials are equipped with semi-matte sun shading, a high-quality galvanic coating and applied Arabic indices, thus underlining the exclusive appearance. The balanced Lancette hands emphasize the elegant face of the watch.
The up to 5 atm waterproof case with a diameter of 43 mm in the traditional Brequet style with ribbed flanks and side polished strap attachments is made of high quality 316L stainless steel. The sapphire cover glass underlines the high quality and long-lasting design.
The special model "IRON ANNIE" is, like its great model, the JU52, of course "Made in Germany".
The "IRON ANNIE" is limited to 330 pieces per dial version. The watch is available from the middle of 2017, exclusively through the authorized watch specialist, at a price of 999 EUR.
